A Formal Introduction
Introductions are hard.
I’ve never been the most outgoing person, even when I was younger. I tend to be more of a wallflower—the kind of person who lingers on the sidelines, watching life unfold around me. So this whole process of trying to become a published author—querying, putting myself out there, creating a TikTok (gasp)—is far beyond my comfort zone. Still, I persist.
For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Taylor.
I’m a writer, poet, and English teacher who has always been drawn to stories that exist in the spaces between—between light and shadow, past and present, what is lost and what remains. I write fantasy, though my love for language often leads me toward the lyrical and the longing. My novel, What the Shadows Took, began as an exploration of inherited darkness—how it shapes us, how we fight it, and how we learn to live with it.
I started this Substack as a place to share my writing journey, my thoughts on storytelling, and the books that have shaped me. The road to publishing is a winding one, and if you’re here, I’d love for you to walk it with me.
